The Municipality of Greater Istanbul, hoping to make an impressive gesture to attendees of the 22nd World Architects Congress held in Istanbul last week, presented as a gift a book called 'Istanbul City Guide,' in which author İbrahim Uslu made reference to the �grandiose greatness� of Ottoman-era Istanbul and referred to the creation of the Republic of Turkey as somewhat of a poor �substitute,� which he claimed 'weakened the city's personality and historical status.'"
