The EU's project must be that of 'understanding' rather than 'transforming' Turkey. The EU, a quasi-federal structure, is pushing Europe back to the center of international relations following a post-war abdication to the USSR and USA. Turkey, for its part, will strengthen Europe in this endeavor
Fueling Turkey's desire for membership is an historical project of fully joining European society and economy. The republican regime in Turkey proned modernization in all spheres of life with the aim of building a Western country."
