"Poudade: French Opposition to Turkey's EU Bid Temporary
The current trend in French politics and society to oppose Turkey's European Union membership is temporary, French Ambassador to Turkey Paul Poudade said yesterday.
Poudade spoke at the monthly meeting of the Women Entrepreneurs Association (KAGIDER) yesterday. Speaking as the special guest at the meeting, Poudade addressed the issue of Turkey's membership in the EU from France's perspective.
Poudade stressed the support of the French president and government and his own personal support for starting EU membership negations with Turkey, adding that Europe will be stronger with Turkey's membership. He said that the membership process will require major economic and social changes in Turkey, especially when considering the current economic importance of agriculture."
