Observing the statements and behavior of the Turkish ruling elite (simply the �establishment�) the critical question, �does the Turkish ruling elite sincerely want Turkey to join the European Union?� will soon beg an answer. There is no doubt that the majority of people are in favor of EU membership for the simple fact that they want their lives to be managed better and a more affluent life. "
