Turkey is aware of problems concerning the situation of women in the country and is determined to expand women�s rights, says State Minister Aksit in response to European Parliament critics

Despite criticizing Turkish women's low participation in political activities and urging Turkish political personalities to act as �role models� in order to stimulate women's participation, European parliamentarians yesterday agreed to call on both the European Union and Parliament to support a Turkey that has taken �significant steps� towards fighting gender discrimination in society. "
