The annual report of the Human Rights Watch included positive expressions for the human rights practices in Turkey. The report announced in New York said that there had been considerable improvement in the human rights practices in Turkey in the last year and the violations of 1990s were left behind.
The report mentioned the amendments in the Turkish Penal Code and the release of Leyla Zana and her friends and the permission given to Kurdish TV stations as well as efforts by the government for the return of people in the Southeast to the evacuated villages. "
