"Turkey agrees to exit Cyprus
ANKARA, Turkey, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Turkey has agreed to begin a process that will end with the country's 30,000 troops being withdrawn from the island of Cyprus.
Turkey agreed to extend the EU association accord to Cyprus after two days of negotiations. In accepting the agreement, Turkey indirectly agreed to recognize the Republic of Cyprus and its sovereignty over the entire island, the Middle East Newsline reported Sunday. The European Union had earlier said Turkey must recognize Cyprus in order for talks on Turkish accession to go forward in late 2005."
