"Turkey Wins Date for EU Talks, Sees Boost for Economy
Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- European Union leaders agreed to begin membership talks with Turkey, vowing to promote Turkish economic growth and build a bridge to the wider Muslim world.
EU governments pledged that the 10- to 15-year negotiating process starting next Oct. 3 would be open-ended and might force Turkey to settle for a second-class membership with permanent curbs on the migration of Turkish workers to western Europe. "
