(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, APRIL 9 - The Turkish central elections commission YSK has rejected the opposition's requests to repeat local elections in the nation's capital after numerous complaints were filed for alleged vote-rigging and irregularities, reports Turkish media. Outgoing mayor Melih Gokcek, from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's AKP party, was proclaimed winner with a 0.9% lead over the main opposition party CHP's candidate, Masur Yavas, in the March 30 local elections. The opposition has reported massive vote-rigging and irregularities in the capital, where sudden power cuts were suffered during the night while the vote-counting was underway. Yavas has said he will appeal to Turkey's Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. (ANSAmed).
