Erdogan’s Islamist push continues, but P.M. maintains moderate cred

On Thursday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on Turkish women to have at least three children, and urged mothers who voted for his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to correctly raise their existing (and future, one presumes) children. The remarks fall in line with Erdoğan’s negative stance on birth control — the prime minister has spoken out against the morning-after pill, abortion, and caesarean births, which are linked to lower birthrates — and his push towards conservative Islam.
