Turkey’s Erdogan marks 10 years in power
ISTANBUL: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrates 10 years in power marked by major political and economic reforms but he enters a new decade facing criticism over Ankara’s rights record, the Kurdish conflict and the intentions of his Islamist-rooted party.
Erdogan, whose Justice and Development Party (AKP) won election on November 3, 2002 on a wave of popular support after years of political instability, has hailed Turkey as a democratic role model for the Muslim world.
