Millions of tulips decorate İstanbul in colorful festival
The festival, which started in the first week of April, will run through the end of the month.
The tulip is not just an ordinary flower for those who know its importance within the cultural and historical context of Turkey.
During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, in addition to giving its name to the Ottoman Tulip Era, tulips adorned the luxurious gardens of the sultans as the most favored flower, they were used as an art motif on hand-woven carpets and the walls of grand mosques and they were an important subject in Ottoman poetry. These April tulips come back into sight in İstanbul with the seventh International Tulip Festival, organized by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
