MOORHEAD – Moorhead resident Newzad Brifki, like millions of his people worldwide, is a man without a country.
Brifki was born in Iraq, but he doesn’t identify with that country.
He is Kurdish.
It’s a cultural distinction that’s sparked numerous bouts of conflict in the Middle East, especially in recent decades.
Nearly 30 million people in the Middle East are Kurds – an ethnic group that claims regions of Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria as their homeland."
