In this post-Cold War era, Turkey’s foreign (and domestic) policies are clearly changing. With no immediate threat to the north requiring alliance support and with continuing European reluctance to consider admitting it to the EU, Turkey’s traditional defense and foreign policies seem increasingly outmoded. Add to this the unsettled geo-political situation in both the Middle East and Central Asia, and Turkish policy makers must address both new challenges and opportunities."
