"Ankara sees crisis looming

Turkey-EU relations are headed towards a crisis unless the Union takes the necessary measures to lift accession negotiations with Ankara out of their present impasse, a high-ranking diplomat has declared. If Turkey does not succeed in opening a new negotiating chapter with the EU27 during the six months of the Hungarian EU Presidency, a year will have passed without any progress being made, a diplomat told journalists, on 15 February in Ankara, under the cover of anonymity. 'This will undoubtedly cause [...] I don't know if I should use the word 'crisis', because we have risen above numerous with the EU, and the word is for us becoming banal,' he said. 'The EU must wake up [and] should at least make a gesture towards Turkey,' he warned."
