BUYUKADA, ISTANBUL — Istanbul may no longer be the polyglot cosmopolitan hub it once was during the Ottoman empire, when it was home to large Greek, Armenian and Jewish communities. But Stein-Gunnar Sommerset, the owner of a 100-year-old wooden house here on Buyukada, a leafy island about an hour’s ferry ride from Istanbul, is trying to keep the spirit of that multicultural era alive.
