Ankara. Candidates for Mayors and Municipal Councilors at the local elections in Turkey scheduled for March 31st 2009 must resign from the positions they occupy in state-run enterprises, the Anatolian agency informs. This condition also affects people on service in the Turkish armed forces. According to the legal requirements the act of resignation must be a fact by December 1st, 5 pm. Otherwise these candidates would not be allowed to run at the elections."
