Answer: The purpose of Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried’s July 6-7 travel to Cyprus was to demonstrate the support of the United States for the efforts of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to rejuvenate efforts under UN auspices to foster a comprehensive settlement that reunifies Cyprus into a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation."
