The international community has welcomed a decision by Turkey's highest court on Wednesday not to ban the governing AK party. The constitutional court did order to halve the party's state subsidies.
The United States hailed the move as a victory for democracy. Dutch MEP Joost Lagendijk expressed relief, saying banning a government party does not suit a country seeking to join the European Union. European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn encouraged Turkey to resume its reforms to modernise the country."
