WASHINGTON and ANKARA -- The United States' troubled relationship with Turkey is on the mend, thanks to the U.S. decision to provide intelligence that helps Ankara attack Turkish Kurdish separatists inside northern Iraq.
But as Turkey's civilian and military leaders voice appreciation for U.S. help in fighting the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), viewed by both NATO allies as a terrorist entity, Washington also is assuring Iraqi Kurds that Ankara will conduct no unilateral and large-scale incursion into Iraqi territory."
