Orhan Pamuk is Turkey's most celebrated writer. Internationally, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2006 and his work has been translated into 40 languages. He has been dangerously outspoken about Turkish denial of Armenian genocide claims and addressed the conflict between East and West. But in reviewing his essay (plus story) collection Other Colors in the Dec. 22 issue of Books, Claire Berlinski raised a dissenting voice, finding Pamuk's work faddish and his melancholy wearisome."
