KUWAIT: Ebru is absolutely one of the most fascinating forms of art I've ever seen and the Ebru section on the Third Kuwait International Islamic Arts Convention, which is currently being held at the Grand Mosque, was a very interesting thing for me. To start with, according to Ebru master and Turkish artist Hikmet Barutcugil and by watching him work on a live demonstration, Ebru can be defined as 'Water-surface painting' and in the West, it is called 'Marbling'. The art involves spraying a water surface
with a substance extracted from an animal's liver called 'Mararah' to prevent the dyes from sinking or randomly spreading, then using natural dyes to paint on the water surface."
