The eastern Black Sea plateau has been the scene of a different sort of activity over the past couple of years. This phenomenon may have been caused by global warming… Or perhaps, more accurately, it reflects a change in the traditional Turkish understanding of holiday as a “seaside activity.” It was in fact foreigners who first discovered the region's potential as a holiday destination. For years, adventure-seekers from Japan to Israel have been uncovering the mountainous skyline of the Black Sea. The interest in the Black Sea tours has increased over the past couple of years, and this seems to affect the people of the plateau in the Rabat village of Şavşat, in Artvin."
