Abdullah Gul was sworn in as the 11th President of Turkey after he was elected by 339 votes, the Turkish daily Hurriyet announces in its online edition. In his speech at the Turkish Parliament at 6 pm local time, Gul said he would hug his compatriots without making difference among them. He added that today Turkey showed itself and the world how mature the democracy in the country was."
