The History of Turkish soccer is characterized by the outspread of soccer during the late 19th, early 20th centuries. But the Ottoman Empire did not allow organized soccer clubs and competitions to operate, which is why modern soccer in Turkey started in 1875 by Englishmen in Thessaloniki, which is Greek’s second largest city followed by Athens. Soccer was also known to have been played in Izmir in 1877. The first club was FC Smyrna from Izmir."
