"9 people abducted by Kurdish rebels released in eastern Turkey
ISTANBUL, Turkey: Kurdish rebels released nine people Monday, including four children, who they had abducted in eastern Turkey a week ago, officials said.
The rebels accused the villagers of not supporting a political candidate backed by the them in the July 22 elections and held the hostages for a week before releasing them in the town of Baskale in Van province, a local official said speaking on condition of anonymity. Turkish civil servants are not allowed to speak to media without prior authorization."
