When he was eight years old, Muammer Ketencoglu would swing under the plum tree at his home in Turkey’s Izmir province and listen to the radio. Since he could not see, he would tune in to Greek and Balkan stations and enjoy the sound of music while kids his age played and squabbled outside. Seeing his interest in music, his uncle gifted him an accordion, which became his constant companion. “I dropped out of Bosphorus University in Istanbul where I was studying psychology and channelised all my energies into studying and playing folk music,” says Ketencoglu, who will be presenting his repertoire with two others at the India International Centre (IIC) today evening."
