THE HAGUE, 22/03/07 - The Lower House is pressing for Dutch citizens of Turkish origin to be exempted from national service in Turkey. The current policy is harmful for integration, in the view of a large majority.
MPs from the Christian democrat (CDA), Labour (PvdA) and Christenunie coalition parties want Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Verhagen (CDA) to discuss an exemption with Turkey. The conservatives (VVD) and Party for Freedom (PVV) also oppose the present situation."
