Preparing to host the Universiade Winter Games in 2011 in Erzurum, Turkey now is aiming to win a competition to hold the World Winter Olympic Games in 2018. Besides intense international campaigns to promote Turkey's Palandöken Mountains, a famous ski resort in Erzurum, the government decided to demilitarize the region to help Turkey's chances to host the world winter games."
