Demonstrators call for wall to come down

"Demonstrators call for wall to come down
By Jean Christou

AROUND 200 Greek and Turkish Cypriots yesterday marched to the Ledra Street barrier demanding the crossing point be opened.

Banners read ‘The wall must come down’, ‘No one can stop peace in Cyprus’ and ‘Demilitarise Nicosia Demilitarise Cyprus’ as the demonstrators marched from Elefetheria Square to the end of Ledra Street.

Not a single flag, Greek, Turkish or Cypriot was visible among the crowd as they chanted “No soldier on the Green Line” and “Tassos, Talat hear us well”.
Following a number of short speeches by representatives of both sides, a small group, led by musician Hadjimike, entertained the protestors with tambourines and drums."
