"Religious orders praised in new textbooks

Amid contentious political debates over the role of religious orders in Turkish society, in a new textbook the Education Ministry has recast orders in a more positive light, daily Aksam reported yesterday.
According to the paper, the ministry has changed the definition of religious orders in a textbook for eighth grade students. Last year the same book on religion, which was distributed to students for free by the ministry, described religious orders as institutions creating polarization and discrimination within society."
