I HAVE been following the debate about the veil and Muslim women over the past week and in a way, am glad this is up for public debate.
I can’t class Jack Straw as one of the most charismatic of politicians but he seems to have opened up this topic for debate in a way that many others have been unable to do or dare to.
The debate has been such that I had a discussion about this with a liberal middle class English woman who said to me that surely it was the right of a Muslim woman to wear a veil if she wanted to."
