[HH] The 17th century Ottoman travel writer Evliya Çelebi writes that the village was composed of waterside residences or yalıs and suggests that there were 2,300 multi-level such buildings built along a valley created by a river. That number is suspect [HH] The buildings along the side streets leading to the landing have been restored, repainted and turned into restaurants, antique stores, gifts and gadgets. On good days the small streets are packed with people selling their wares -- bracelets, rings, old photos, scarves, hats, knickknacks, etc "
