Since the first years of the Turkish Republic, apart from a few founded by pioneers from the private sector, not many new museums have been opened in Turkey. There is no real 'museum tradition' here. School-time museum visits or educational trips with the parents play little part in the everyday lives of Turkish children. European children are used to museums from an early age, with parents considering it a serious task to increase their children’s acquaintance with the world of knowledge."
