In a survey I mentioned last week on the attitude of the Kurds, I found that 90 percent of Kurds did not want an independent Kurdistan; however they supported the Kurdistan Workers’ Party because all other democratic Kurdish organizations that could seriously rival the terrorist organization had been repressed by the government. The other finding was that the majority of Kurds, except hard-core PKK followers, were quite willing to accept being citizens of the Republic of Turkey -- but as 'Kurds,' not Turks, as stipulated by the Constitution."
