On July 25, 2006, what could turn out to be the most significant media deal in modern history was concluded, yet it went virtually unnoticed by the majority of the world's media: the acquisition of TGRT, a private station based in Yenibosna ('New Bosnia') in Istanbul, by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation for US$98 million. The station's sellers, Ihlas Holding, will retain the TGRT brand, and the new owners are in the process of carrying out research amongst the Turkish public as to what replacement appellation should be given to the channel.
