"Turkey orders scholars to purge key Islamic text of 'misogyny'

ANKARA -- Turkish theologians are studying the hadith, a collection of sayings by the Prophet Mohammed, to weed out passages seen as advocating violence or hatred against women, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Mehmet Gormez, deputy head of the religious affairs directorate, said that many words attributed to the Prophet, including those discriminating against women, had been fabricated over the centuries. "
