Ankara. Turkey will not sacrifice Northern Cyprus to join the European Union, Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated today cited by Cypriot news agency CNA.
The Prime Minister told the Turkish state channel that his country will continue moving in the direction of a European perspective but he stressed that Turkey is following a policy which is open to the world. According to the Prime Minster the 2004 report of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Cyprus has not been discussed at the UN Security Council in the last two years. He said that in order for Turkey to open its ports and airfields to the Republic of Cyprus the isolation of the Cyprus Turks must first be lifted."
