Turkey's chief negotiator in its European Union accession process said on Monday the incidents surrounding the trial of Orhan Pamuk were damaging to Turkey.
The incidents were sad for Turkey, Babacan told CNNTurk TV channel. 'Turkey has lost something in the sphere of perception.'
The opening hearing of the Pamuk trial on Friday in Istanbul was marred by protests and violent scuffles on the part of both right-wing and left-wing nationalists."
