Traces of the tradition of masks, which was born in the East and later migrated to the West, can be found in Anatolia as well as in other parts of the world.
People who feared the unknown in the chaos of primitive times wanted to rule nature in order to dominate it. They resorted to casting spells and drew pictures on walls in the first display of art. In primitive societies fear was overcome by dances, masks, spells and talismans, serving as protection and as a way of prevailing over the unknown. The sense of helplessness in the face of natural disasters and a curiosity of the unknown led to the need for masks, spells and rituals for protection."
