The Justice and Development Party's (AKP) political landslide in Ankara further divided the perception of the Cyprus problem in Turkey. There were people in Ankara in the past who considered the Cyprus problem to be a “hunch in the back” that had to be removed, but there has never been a government that could go to the extent of challenging the “national policy” and boldly declaring in public that “No solution cannot be an option. We shall have a settlement-oriented Cyprus policy. We want a win-win settlement on Cyprus. In search for peace and resolution on Cyprus, we will always be one step ahead of the Greek side.”"
