Turkish politicians are focused on Oct. 3. Both the ruling and the opposition parties are anxiously expectant about the scheduled start date for Turkey's European Union membership talks. The possibility of delaying or postponing the start date would be significant enough to affect the balance in Turkish politics. The Justice and Development (AK) Party is aware of the intimate relation between remaining the ruling party and sticking to this start date. The opposition is also aware that thwarting AK Party's plans of remaining in power is directly related to this disappointment, a delay in the starting date of negotiations. Both parties are eagerly anticipating Oct. 3 as a
watershed that will directly affect the future of Turkey and their own political fortunes. "
