"Chirac silent on Turkey-EU issue

Jacques ChiracThe office of Jacques Chirac, the French president, said it had no comment on Wednesday on a report saying he backed his prime minister's view that Turkey must recognise Cyprus before it could start EU membership talks.
The French daily newspaper Le Figaro reported on Wednesday that Mr Chirac supported comments made on Tuesday by Dominique de Villepin, the premier, that raised a potential new hurdle to Turkey starting accession talks."
