The island of Cyprus is located on the frontier between the Middle East and Europe - geographically, politically, and economically. Situated in the Mediterranean Sea that separates Europe from the Middle East and North Africa, Cyprus attracts tourists from all three continents. Political control of the island is the subject of a long conflict between the Greek, EU-supported Republic of Cyprus (RC) and the Ankara-aligned Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). While Cyprus' unique mix of cultures has brought plenty of foreign cash to the island, underlying tensions could threaten Cyprus' long-term success."
