Turkey's governing and opposition parties have agreed to kick off an initiative to respond to mounting international pressure to recognize an alleged Armenian genocide in an effort that the architect of the bid said was motivated by a desire to become proactive.
According to S�kr� Elekdag, an opposition deputy who is the drafter of the Turkish initiative, this will put Turkey in a stronger position to tell European backers of Armenian allegations to support scientific efforts instead of passing resolutions upholding Armenian claims and paying no attention to Turkish theses."
