ANKARA, TURKEY - Paramilitary forces raced to rescue at least 21 people after a landslide buried more than a dozen houses in central Turkey early Thursday.
The landslide hit the village of Sugozu in central Anatolian Sivas province while people were still sleeping.
A local police official said the cause of the landslide was not known.
It wasn't caused by heavy rains, he added.
Poor building standards and the development of housing on unstable river banks have been blamed for past disasters, however.
A number of bulldozers have been sent to Sugozu to help in the search for survivors. "
