Erdoğan to weaken Turkey further with hasty laws

Millions of dollars spent by the European Union and the Council of Europe (CoE) on programs to help Turkey overhaul its criminal justice system and train members of the judiciary and police have all been wasted, thanks but no thanks to the embattled Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who effectively suspended the rule of law, turned the whole criminal justice system upside down with a series of rushed bills from Parliament, decimated the police force with an unprecedented number of reshuffles and purges, and reined in the independence and impartiality of judiciary.
