A Train Too Far

ISTANBUL — Last Tuesday the city celebrated the 90th anniversary of Turkey’s founding with unusual pomp. Senior politicians cut the ribbon on a spectacular new metro system that runs some 200 feet below the Sea of Marmara and can carry 1.5 million people every day between the European and Asian sides of the city.
