Turkey must be the part of the EU - expert
The European Union is an economic and political union founded in 1952 by Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Currently, it has 28 member states. Turkey became an associate of the EU bloc in the 1960s but the talks on its bid were launched in 2005 and got stalled amid a dispute over the divided island of Cyprus, an EU member. Ankara believes that it has suffered from prejudice in both its EU membership expectations and its recent lost bid to host the 2020 Olympics. Turkey is a mainly Muslim country, and the EU founding states have always had concerns on the issue, fearing that its cultural differences would hinder its integration. Voice of Russia talked to Arzu Geybulla, a freelance journalist and social media trainer.
