Letter: Turkish Canadian applauds Quebec’s Charter of Values

Having roots in a country that owes its existence to the secularist reformation of the 1920s, I find it hard to relate to the political feeding frenzy over Quebec’s proposed Charter of Values. Religion has been at the root of most human conflict throughout history, and it still is. Separation of state from religion and the triumph of reason over organized farce has been an essential part of political, social and even spiritual evolution of a society. Symbols are not static images or words, but powerful statements about reality.
